Dental implant

The loss of the front teeth, an integral aspect of facial aesthetics, can cause mental, social and speech problems.

Loss of the rear teeth can cause eating and digestive problems as well as causing other teeth to change position. Therefore, gaps left by missing teeth should be filled with dental implants.

Dental bridges require teeth adjacent to the gap be shortened. Rather than causing harm to healthy teeth, dentists prefer to insert a titanium base into the bone and place a porcelain tooth that carries out the same functional and aesthetic functions of the original tooth. Furthermore, implants remove cleaning and smell problems associated with long bridges.

Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Adjacent teeth remain undamaged
  • Prevent bone from wasting away
  • Increased oral hygiene over dental bridges
  • Allow for individual porcelain crown to look like the teeth they replace
  • Increase the length full implants can remain in place, especially for those in the jaw.

Criteria surrounding the decision to have dental implants

  • The patient’s health
  • The patient’s age
  • Size of gaps
  • Sufficient bone mass
  • Oral hygiene
  • Smoking

Dental implants are a quick treatment option provided that the pre-examination is meticulously carried out and that treatment is performed diligently in a sterile environment and post-treatment care guidelines are adhered to.

Preparing for dental implants and treatment stages

1. Patients’ Medical History:

The patient is asked whether or not they have had important organ illnesses. If so, their current health condition is investigated. If there is an ongoing illness, treatment will be postponed until that illness’ resolution.

2. Oral and Radiological Examination:

The condition of all the teeth, gums and the bone of the implant sites are evaluated. Bite alignment is also checked while panoramic x-rays and, in certain cases, tomographic scans are taken.

3. Temporary prosthetic preparation:

These are used while the final crowns are prepared.

4. Implant

The implants are inserted into the bone under local anaesthetic.

5. Post-procedure care

The first 2 weeks are important for your recovery. Your doctor will give you a special mouthwash to maintain oral hygiene together with a course of antibiotics. For the first 2 days, you should apply ice while avoiding very hot or cold foods.

6. Fitting of permanent crown

The final, permanent crown is fitted into place after a waiting period of around 2-4 months.
